Community forklift1/3/2024 The program has a very simple application process, and staff are constantly screening new applicants. We provide home repair supplies and household essentials free of cost to families and individuals who qualify for need-based assistance. Local housing and commercial building rehabilitation We offer a wide range of free home improvement workshops and classes year round at the Reuse Center. We host Forklift First Fridays during the summer months with live music, local artisans, food trucks, and a reuse Popup Shop. Our annual Garden Party and Funkyard Festival hosted at the Reuse Center draw thousands to the Reuse Center to celebrate and learn about reuse. We lift by bringing people together to learn, create, and enjoy through hundreds of outreach and on site activities to educate the community about reuse and Community Forklift. A central part of our mission is to lift up communities. Our “RISE” (Reuse Incubator for a Sustainable Environment) program has launched, supported, and mentored several successful green businesses in Prince George’s County. Community Forklift serves as a model for successful green business development with annual sales of over $1.8 million. Returning citizens comprise a significant number of our staff. We strongly support employees challenged by employment barriers. Jobs start at $15 per hour with full benefits. We provide over 30 good green jobs for our locally based staff. Community Forklift’s Reuse Center makes home improvement affordable by offering diverted materials at a substantially lower cost to the public.Ģ. We have diverted more than $45 million worth of materials from the landfill since 2011. The Center’s 40,000 square foot warehouse is filled with usable donated surplus and salvage building materials, furniture, appliances and vintage house wares diverted from the landfill. Environmental Stewardship – Diverting Usable Materials from the Landfill: The Reuse Center is the hub of Community Forklift’s activities focused on diversion of surplus and salvage building materials from the landfill, creating good green jobs, promoting economic development, educating the public, and serving as a center for community celebrations.ġ. Community Forklift’s operations are centrally located in the metropolitan Washington DC area at our nonprofit Reuse Center in the Town of Edmonston, Prince George’s County, Maryland.
